it is so cool that there's an Ikea fan site out there, and this forum, wow! My first time here, and maybe you guys can help me and my hubby with this... We just recently (about 7 weeks ago)bought the Malm queen size bed in the black brown limited edition (well, they told us in the store that they would have it out for 2006 only...). When we got the bed, the night tables were out of stock (the ones you attach to the headboard), since theyhad sold the black-brown version like crazy and it was hard to get all over the east coast. Still, they were gonna get them in stock, and told us to check back within a week...
And now we've been checking back about a million times and no staright answers, every time there's a different story about these tables. We're now tired of waiting and all the confusion at the store about this series, and we consider dropping the tables and get something else...
Does anyone out there know whats going on with this series and how we could possible get two night tables to complete our bedroom set... Thanks a bunch guys,
Ugh. Of course these are the exact tables I am going to IKEA to pick up, along with a king sized frame, on Saturday. Looks like I better call ahead on stock. Of course, my conflicting black/brown PAX answer goes to prove that calling IKEA can be an exercise in futility. :?
However, I'll be happy to look at
Woodbridge
for you - for what that's worth.

Great if u want to! I dont know, we're seriously starting to believe that they have discontinued this series and once they're out of stock, no additional orders will come in to the USfrom Europe, eventhough they keep on telling us "keep on checking back once every two weeks or so, bla bla bla...
Im
tired of using a moving box for night table in my new stylish bedroom ... Thanks again, and let me know about your luck with this!
That theory (limited edition) seems a bit odd as more and more lines are coming in the black/brown...I'm on hold with
Woodbridge
right now, so I'll give you the scoop.
I think the problem with the conflicting answers stems from the fact that IKEA apparently likes to randomly assign new item numbers to identical products when new colors and pieces are added to a particular line.
Case in point, I was told by two separate IKEA employees (one kitchen worker, and one store manager) back in March that the entire UDDEN line was being discontinued...when actually, it turns out, they were just reintroducing the entire line with a new color (black) and a bunch of new options (drawers, upper cabinets, etc.). It took countless phone calls and transfers to finally get to the bottom of the story, and it wound up simply being that there were new item numbers for the next shipment of stock.
It may be helpful to request that the customer service person search for further information by item name, rather than item number.
(Not to confuse things further, but the MALM beds were originally called BERGEN. Identical items...different name. That has caused endless amounts of confusion when we've gone to the customer service desk for the occasional lost part/tool.)
MALM in oak is in the new catalog - but the beech range was discontinued. I saw a sign to that effect while making a huge return from my kitchen. Over the course of the hour I was there I read that sign like 900 times.
Thanks guys! Well, we have gotten so many differnet answers from different employers up there at the store or on phone, I guess they do the best they can with the info they have on the computer... We were told when we bought the bed, that black-brown was limited to 2006,but maybe it was a test-run for that color and they saw how popular it was. The series has been totally outsold whenever they get stuff in stock. So it would be stupid not to continue it... I guess we can hold out another 3 weeks or so, and will you please post a little note here if and when you see them in
Woodbridge
, a little roadtrip from MD is gonna be worth it! Thanks again! Have a great weekend! Ladyzoul.

I have to tell you, after the HJUVIK faucet incident of 2005-2006, I would nevah trust their delivery promises. On the other hand, I bought a different faucet after waiting nearly 8 months of (2 weeks, next week, eight weeks...) then it was *raining* Hjuviks!
I love IKEA, but good grief. Some of their business practices just go over my head.
If I see 2 of the MALM tables shall I fling myself over them and wait for you to arrive from Maryland?
I was told this spring (when it sounds like you bought the bed) that the Malm black/brown would be for sale for a limited time in the spring as a test run for the line. I guess that they decided to run it, but that would explain the gap in availability.
