We have a nice game room in this house but the problem is storage! In our last home we had a basement with a whole wall of storage cabinets for toys and games. This house has nothing like that and suffers from a severe lack of storage in common areas.
So dh and I have been brainstorming about what to do to give the kids somewhere to put their toys. I was initially thinking of going with some kitchen cabinets (LOVE the Lidingo line we put in the kitchen) but wondering if there is something else IKEA that we could use that wasn't built-in but could give us that look.
PAX has tons of options for storage...pullouts, shelves, cubbies, etc. all behind doors. There are several bookcase/media storage options as well. What sort of look are you going for?

We have a large projection TV screen that sits in the middle of the wall. I was thinking of maybe two towers on either side (open or closed storage) and then lower storage below that may double as bench seat or additional storage / display space.
I'll have to post some pictures. It's always easier for me when there is a visual.
I will give PAX another look. I haven't spent a lot of time at the IKEA stores because it's always been a mad dash to get all of our kitchen business accurately finished in our long trips to Houston. Can't wait 'til the Round Rock IKEA opens this fall!
Liatorp is very pretty -- if you like the style of Lidingo, you would probably like Liatorp. It's got a bunch of different units you can mix and match, and there's crown molding and plinth that goes the length of the whole thing (connecting the units), so it looks like one big piece. http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...hapterId=16107
I'm in the process of doing the same thing. I'm looking to do a system similar to this PB system, but with a wrap around for larger storage and dress up 'closet'.
Kind of a cross between these two systems
I change my mind daily But right now what I'm thinking is something shorter, like the white system. Where the bookcase is there, we'll have the TV. I'll use wall cabinets for the stystem. I haven't decided exactly what to do for the 'toe kick' area, I'm thinking of creating a base to set the cabinets on KWIM. I'll use walll cabinets to create the system, and 2 pantries. So as of right now, what I have planned is a system similar to the PB one I posted (3 open bases, 2 doored cabinets w/room in the middle for TV), then 2 stacked diagnal wall cabinets (a 30 and a 39"), then a 12" deep 15x80 pantry followed by a 24" deep 15x80. The only down side to using kitchen cabinets is that they are much narrower then most other storage solutions/wall systems. We're limited on space though, so it works out better for us anyways.
justagirl - Would you consider using a 30" wide 24" deep pantry? With the 2 15" pantries, you will lose a fair amount of storage while still using tup he same amount of wall space. The wider pantry would make a perfect dress-up closet. In my bedroom "pantries", I used a birch clothes rail from the Komplement/Pax series by cutting a few inches off.
The holes in Akurum line up perfectly for installing many of the Komplement parts. For example, I usedthis Komplement rail with hooks on the side of the cabinet. It pulls out for easy access, and is only $6:
I had thought about the 30", but was concerned about that being right next to the diagnal wall cabinets. Do you think that would be a problem? It would sit back so much further then the massive pantry don't you think?
Do you have pictures of your closet? That's the next project on our list and I've thought about using kitchen cabinets if I can.
I wasn't sure what you meant by diagonal cabinets. Do you mean laid on their sides and stacked? Based on how my kitchen pantry looks next to a wall cabinet, I don't think the difference in depth is problematic. But depending on the room size, that could be more bulk than you want.
Closet photos will come soon, I hope. My son has dragged me into a garage organization project that is moving slowly, so the bedroom has been put on hold. Here's a link to part 2 of my bedroom saga so you can see where I put my pantries:
