Love the Malm. Is a memory foam mattress (ex tempurpedic) useable with the Malm? It seems like the bed slats would not work well with the memory foam. Has anyone used the Malm with a similar mattress?

I'm not sure if a memory foam mattress would work well with the slots.

I also have a Malm bed, and this is what I did instead (it seems like a lot of people have the same idea). I purchased an IKEA Fangebo mattress as well as Serta 4-inch memory foam topper from Overstock. It's incredibly comfortable, and a very good deal ($400 for mattress and topper).

Hope that helps.

I'd cut some plywood or MDF to fit inside the frame to give it a uniform surface. I love my memory foam mattress!

These are good suggestions. Do other mattresses other than IKEA'sfit the Malm without modifying??

Still hoping someone posts that has the MALM and Tempurpedic ...

Mattresses are standard sizes, so any full or queen should fit the full or queen frames.

Eva, does this mean that IKEA beds sold in the US are US sizes rather than European sizes? Euro beds are (surprise) smaller than US ones, and I always assumed that IKEA beds were euro.

I made this assumption because it used to be that IKEA crib mattresses/linens only fit IKEA cribs because of euro sizing.

From what I can see, the IKEA mattresses sold in the US conform to US sizes, and the Malm bed should fit the standard US size. Here's a chart with US and Euro mattresses sizes so you can compare.

I have a memory foam mattress on my Malm bed, seems to work well.

If the slats are close together you should be fine. I read previously, somewhere, that you should have a slatted base for a memory foam bed to allow it to breathe. I forget the details, but it was something along the line that any moisture or condensation would get trapped between the foam and the base platform as foam doesn't breathe, so it should be slatted.. Can anyone back this up?

lockburn ... great to know! I ended up doing some internet searches on memory foam and found that slatted boards are often recommended! I've heard the sameconcern you stated about moisture with memory foam and certain platforms... but I could not find anything to back that up.

Hi everyone! I have a Malm with a tempurpedic. It works well and the mattress salesman told me slotted bases are preferred. Love the Malm by the way. I've been lurking on this site after following threads on thathomesite for a long time. Nice to see how this forum has grown!
