I recently bought an IKEA Sultan Fageras (grade lower than Fangebo) mattress. It felt the same as the Fangebo except the salesman told me that the fangebo is firmer (not sure about this?). So its been a week and my back still hurts in the morning. It felt fine in the store, but the brand new mattress feels quite firm (hard). I have no problems going to sleep, its just the pain the morning after thats a problem.
A few people told me that it takes a while to "break into" the mattress ? Anyone have any similar experiences. Does the fangebo feel the same way or is it much different ? I guess at this point, my question is if I should try and make this work or look at a different kind/brand of mattress.
I am 5.5 about 130lbs, prefer foam to spring and medium-firm (fageras meets all this description, yet doesnt feel comfortable. what gives ?)
I am not sure what IKEA's policy is on returning mattresses (anyone know?)
So there, hopefully all you IKEA fans will rescue me from this.
You may just need to get used to it. Mattresses are like dentures...weird until you get used to them, and then you never even notice them! I don't have dentures, but the analogy is apt...
You may want to get a memory foam topper. I'd recommend at least a 2 inch thick one, any less and it is not worth it. Overstock sells a bunch at good prices, and so does Target, Costco, etc. We have a memory foam 3 inch topper on my DDs LYCKSELE pullout sofa, and my DH and I slept on it for a week with no complaints...and we are total mattress snobs! We have a wonderful Isotonic sleep system that we adore, so we thought it would be a real hardship to sleep on the sofa bed, but I am happy to report that it was a wonderful experience due to the topper.

Welcome! I just noticed this was your first post! Glad you're here.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, indeed and you made me notice too -- 2245 is insane !
Never knew this forum existed -- and now I am kicking myself for not knowing about the AS-IS section until now.
Anyhow, with that many posts, I have to heed the advice !
I was wondering when the "get used to" bit would end, since its no fun to have a constant sore-back. The mattress also is only 5inch thick, so I wasn't sure if its because its not thick enough and if I should upgrade to a fangebo (which amazingly recieves rave reviews here and elsewhere)

I second the memory foam topper concept. I have bought three at Costco:
--First, for the cheapest select comfort mattress in our guest bedroom. My MIL who has the top of the line select comfort mattress said she thinks ours is better
--Second, for my friends who have a beautiful home, but hadn't quite gotten around to replacing their college futon in the guest bedroom. They liked it so much that they redid the whole room (very nice!). And I saved a bundle avoiding traction!
--Third, for my 10 year old son who complained that the mattress on the top bunk of his bunkbed was hurting his back
I would be really suprised if the topper didn't make a huge improvement- and then you wouldn't be stuck with 2 mattresses.
Does your back hurt about the same as it did on your old mattress? The topper would probably help, but maybe a few visits with a chiropractor would help as well.

My only comment is that you get what you pay for. Think about it: if you get enough sleep, you spend about one-third of your life laying on your mattress. So, it's kind of worthwhile to get one that isn't going to cause you problems.
Furthermore, there's been incredible advances in the quality of mattresses in the last few decades. You've got natural beds, and of course memory foam mattresses with space-age technology. But do yourself a favor and put out a little cash for a mattress that's actually going to do you some good.
