Smile Shoe storage

I'm trying to redo the laundry room and was thinking of adding an area for shoes. Right now we have a closet with shelves but the shoes never stay put. Does IKEA have a good system for shoes that would take up an area that is 45 1/2" w x 14" D?

I'd rather not store our shoes in the bedroom but near to where we exit and enter. Would appreciate any tips and suggestions.

Here are a couple ideas:

You could also use the 39" wide PAX storage which would store alot of shoes!

I've been blogged!
You could use Akurum wall cabinets, either as bases or actually wall-mounted. If you put a 30" and a 15" side by side, you could store a ton of shoes. If you wanted full-height, you could use the 12" deep pantry cabinet. I made my shoe cabinet out of a 24" base cabinet, with 4 pullout shelves. I like it!

If you're concerned about shoes not staying put, I wonder if you could glue down some quarter round trim to divide the spaces.

Those are neat ideas Laurie.

Kmcg, do you have a pic ? So you used pullout shelves? Who would have thought!

Thanks for the input.

Here's a picture. I had to make my own pull-out shelves, but it was pretty easy. You have to trim some off one edge of each shelf, and install the hardware sold at HD and Lowes and probably everywhere else - it's something like Euro-style shelf glides. You need full extension hinges so the shelves clear the doors. I don't think you would need pullout shelves in a shallow cabinet, but this is a great solution if you have room for a deep cabinet.

I used a 36 wide upper with the white Rubrik doors for my shoe cabinet. Here are some pics:

We have since put a Applad white cover panel on top, like a countertop, to hide the hardward that is on top of the cabinet. I wonder if i'll ever get around to taking another photo...

Following up on what Laurie posted:

the Pax system has metal shelves espressly for shoes. They have a lip that goes on the front so you can slant the shelves. That way shoes stay forward for viewing and access. Do not use slanting shelves for bulky shoes like high tops or short boots.

Hint: to get more shoes on a shelf alternate the shoes direction: all left shoes toes to the back, all right shoes toes to the front.

This is what we plan to do with the PAX (love it!!) We're planning to install a PAX closet system (hopefully next year?). Within the next couple weeks, two new windows are going into our bedroom that will look completely off-center for the next year because I'm leaving room for the PAX (156" across one wall). After it's installed, the windows will be centered. I'm so excited about having an organized closet system. In one of the pics. (I believe in the PAX flyer) it shows a 39" PAX section with shirts hanging above, pants below, and enough room for shoes across the bottom. My plan is to utilize the space below and/or above for this and a 19" PAX section for dresses, and another 19" for drawers. Dh and I will have 78" each to work with. Doesn't seem like alot; but it's much better than what we have now and much more organized.

Mariposita: Do you have need for a bench to sit at and put shoes on in the laundry room? If so, perhaps you could do an open bench with shelves underneath for shoe storage. Or a tall shelving system of "cubes" for the shoe storage. Are you wanting all your shoes stored there? Or just a place to kick your shoes off in bad weather?

Hi Laurie, I don't have any sitting area near the laundry room.

We won't put all the shoes there, just the ones we use more often.
