I'm still inching along with my master suite remodel, now focusing on the vanity. Cabinets will be Akurum with Hallarum doors, and the vanity is 55" wide. I've been agonizing over the sink choice, but yesterday I stumbled upon one of my favorites on Ebay, and bought it for a great price (see picture below). It was a floor model, and comes with a wall-mount faucet, which I think is lovely but I have no experience with them. It's the Kohler Falling Water faucet.
Certainly the biggest drawback is we would have to open up the wall to run the plumbing up, and who knows what kind of can of worms that will be. I also have to spend $100+ on the valve piece to go with the faucet. Another possible issue is that with a deeper than standard vanity (25" counter), I will need to have the sink mounted further back so the faucet reaches (sink is 14.5" deep, and it looks it should be about 2-3" from the wall to work with this faucet). So bottom line, given the extra cost of installation (I have to hire someone), is this faucet "Wow!" enough to be worth it?
If I don't want it, I could sell it and buy a deck mount faucet. Does anyone have suggestions for a tall one with a 5-7" spout reach, in a somewhat modern style? (The room is sort of modern craftsman/Shoji inspired.) The sink is 6-3/4" high, so it needs to be pretty tall (9+" maybe?), and I assume the handle(s) should be up high so we don't have to reach around the sink.
Given your circumstances, I would definitely vote against the wall mount. I have one in my powder room but paired with a wall mount sink which overcomes some of the issues but not all...
The first thing to know is that you WILL have water, etc all over the wall no matter what, so better count on a good, water resistant backsplash. Plus then you'll always be having to reach behind the sink to clean that extra drippy up which isn't a huge deal, but it's one of the inconveniences of having a deep vanity and vessel sink made worse by the faucet.
The biggest negative I see would be that with a 25" deep vanity, I think that is just too far to have to reach to be able to operate the faucet comfortably. I also think putting the sink that far back from the front of the counter will look and feel strange.
Thanks - that's exactly the kind of input I was looking for. It does seem like drips down the walls would be inevitable, and yes, a serious backsplash would be required. Even without that, the depth of the vanity seems to be a major concern. I hope I'm not making a mistake with the kitchen-cabinet vanity! I just love the idea of extra storage, but did it get the better of good design?
The strangest thing about many of the deck-mounted faucets I've looked at is that the handles are at the bottom. That doesn't seem so great if it's installed behind the on-counter sink. Do people put them off to the side normally?
Oooooo, a serious backsplash! We've had fun backsplooziesplatting you before Kathy. Looking forward to it again! Great looking sink, and even better at a bargain. Even if you choose not to go with the wall mount faucet, I think a serious backsplash is in order.

Stress? It's not supposed to be stressful. I think it's kinda fun. But then, I like rollercoasters.

Oh yea, Eva, you can bet I've been poring over the glass tile selections!
Susan, it is fun, actually, or I wouldn't be spending my life on Ikeafans, living vicariously through everyone's planning! It's only stressful because I have a million other things I'm supposed to be doing right now. And I really did mean to make this a low-key renovation. Oh well...
