It seems that I cannot find it in stock in any of the local stores (closest one is
Elizabeth
, NJ) and there is no stock prognosis. I've been monitoring it for a few weeks now and it hasn't changed. So I'm wondering if it's been discontinued and if I should just buy a different door instead of waiting for it (sucks because I have three Effektiv units and one already has this door on it).
I've called the store to see if I could check their stock prognosis, but it doesn't seem that I can get through (endless hold).
Just to confirm, the aluminum/glass doors have been discontinued (not sure if all of Effektiv has been discontinued).

Unfortunately, the 901.094.54 EFFEKTIV doors in aluminum/glass have been discontinued by IKEA and are no longer being manufactured by our suppliers. We will no longer have any availability on this product.
IKEA products are not discontinued based on sales or consumer demand, but on product availability. This process allows IKEA to open space to introduce new products to the range.
So there you have it. If you're on the East coast,
New Haven
, CT still has 5 as of 11/25 (I made the trek from NJ and purchased 2 of 7 ).

I was placing an Effektiv order yesterday when I found out from the on-line sales rep the Effektiv line was being discontinued. I am from
Canada
and I had to place one order in Canada and one is the US to get the remaining pieces I needed.
I only started my Effektiv units a couple of months ago with the intention of adding on to them over the next year. So my plans changed and I ordered the rest of the pieces yesterday.
I suggested to the sales rep that Ikea announce discontinued lines on their web site. That way, at least people have a chance to get any more pieces they need and Ikea clears out their warehouses maybe a little faster of any remaining pieces.
For example, if you register your china pattern with the manufacturer and they are going to discontinue a pattern, they will send you a letter of notice so you have time to collect any remaining pieces of the china pattern you may want.
Shouldn't be that difficult to post a discontinuation notice on their web site, should it? Any opinions?

If they announce that an item is discontinued, sales will slow and they'll have to use discounts to move the remaining stock.
It seems a bit dishonest, but if they do nothing, then buyers might just buy pieces now and wait for missing pieces to come back in stock in the future, not knowing -- without asking -- that the line has been discontinued. This way, they can sell more of their remaining stock at full price.
This is what happened in my case as I had some existing Effektiv units and wanted to expand the set. Bought the pieces that were in stock at my local Ikea thinking that the rest would come into stock later, but then realized that the entire line was being phased out.
I probably would have moved the existing units somewhere else in my house and replaced it with the Besta line instead if I knew it was going to be such a fiasco (drove 300 miles to get the doors because of their terrible online ordering policies...).
Although, I don't see anything in their lineup that directly replaces Effektiv from a feature-function perspective. It's a shame because outside of hard-to-find and expensive options from Steelcase, Hon, and so on, there aren't many other good, modular workspace solutions on the market.
Anyways, good luck getting the rest of your pieces!
I am also looking for 3 sets of these doors. I am in the process of having some built in pieces to replace the base units of the effektiv that I bought a few months ago. If anyone wants to sell me 3 sets of doors that they might have replaced with something else I would go to great lengths to get them. I have 8 existing cabinets already on the wall that these last 3 would complete. I've called/checked every US and
Canada
store with no luck They dont even have any displays left. Any assistance would be very appreciated.
If anyone is interested in white base units with the gloss/patterned black doors I have some that I will be getting rid of in a few weeks.

Hello, my name is Kevin and I work in Workspaces for IKEA
Woodbridge
.
Yes, the Effektiv system is being discontinued. There are several components which are already depleted and won't be coming back in stock. These are:
-- All glass doors.
-- All drawers and fronts, including file drawers and fronts.
-- Some plinths
-- Glass shelf
The Effektiv is being replaced by a new system called Galant. This system will be available beginning in August. Unfortunately however, it won't be backward compatible with Effektiv.
As to why Effektiv is going away, it has been a valued and versatile storage solution for over ten years. IKEA felt it was time for a refresh and to bring the desk system (Galant) and storage system in line with one another. The new Galant storage system will be an exciting, new, addition to the IKEA family and I think you will be pleasantly surprised with it. It will be worth the wait.
