Now that my kitchen is almost done, I need a new project. Does anyone have recommendations or ideas about best pieces to use in a home office/sewing room? I have room for about 20 feet of base cabinets, but will need to leave some room for a lower desk area. I could combine shelving, wardrobe pieces, office pieces, so I'm really open to inspiration. Need lots of places to store fabric and crafty junk, and some file space as well.
I have an idea that I'm going to be envious of your space! I really love the PAX system, although I didn't think the doors (at least the white ones that I would have preferred) were up to the same quality as the kitchen lines.
For sewing/crafts, you could use the pull-out trays with the dividers meant for ties, and you could use the pants hangers to hang large lengths of fabric. I actually have one of these that I bought with the intention of creating a space for linens...haven't figured out exactly where yet.
Is the lowered desk space for a sewing machine? You'd definitely have to include the ironing board cabinet.
Some
AKURUM
cabinets with wire baskets for storing folded fabrics. Hmmm...what kinds of crafts are we talkin'?

Akurum definition
Akurum is the North American equivalent of FAKTUM; that is the fitted, frameless, component kitchen cabinet line, which when paired with door and drawer fronts as well as interior accessories makes up the full kitchen cabinet system.
Susan - I was up late last night drooling over the pants hanger, with the very same idea! I hadn't seen the ironing board cabinet - that's so cool! Is it part of Pax? Yes, the desk surface is for a sewing machine and maybe a spare computer.
What crafts, you ask? Well, I have all the supplies for sewing, upholstering, weaving, doll-making, beading, felting, knitting, sculpy jewelry, quilting, mosaics, rescuing and decorating vintage travel trailers... the list seems endless. While I've actually done most of these crafts at one time or another, I'm better at planning the projects and buying the materials. This may sound familiar to some of you Obviously, I need to quit my job!
I organize my crafts in see through bins. This way, I can have everything for a particular craft in an easily available format. This is one situation where cabinets with shelves and doors would be a better option than drawers.
You'll need a large, heatproof surface, with electric convenient to it. Also a place to dry things.
I can see some Grundtal or Bygel hanging racks with holders for ribbons, buckets for scissors, etc. You could adapt say, the paper towel holder, for craft purposes I am sure.
If you do gift wrap type things, you might want to use the frame of a wall cab to hold rows of dowels upon which you would hang your gift wrap rolls, then mount a cutting implement across the front of the bottom for tearoff. You could adapt the same idea in a larger version for bolts of fabric. You'd have to use pipe instead of dowels, though.
I could see some pullout units with extra drawers for all those little things you need.
And don't forget a big bulletin board for ideas and papers etc.
And you could of course steal my Jussi slide-in table idea, that would give you a nice extra surface to pull out when needed and tucked away when not.
Kathy -- What kind of style are you wanting for your craft room/office? White like the kitchen? Or would birch work for you? There are more options in PAX in birch, and alot of the office lines also are offered in birch. Not so much in white. So, what's the style? Have you created a Mission Statement for your office?
I think my mission statement is to get on one of those home organization makeover shows, although it would be so embarrassing to have to show my friends the way this particular part of our house looks! Really, I want this room to provide a work surface for sewing, and space for organizing files, craft materials and out of season clothes. I want it to feel calm and functional, but am less concerned about style. I want to do this without spending a lot of money because

is still recovering from the spur of the moment kitchen remodel!
This room has no style, and because it’s way out of the public area (just off the master bedroom) it doesn’t need to have any special style. Anything will be an improvement, as it’s been kind of a dumping ground for papers, clothes, and sewing supplies that can’t find a home elsewhere. I need to get rid of two antique pieces that sit there looking pretty but aren't that efficient for storage. I have an L-shaped computer desk that probably ought to stay because it’s got an ample work surface and basically fits the space well.
I’m really torn between a whole wall of 36” drawer base units (think of the clothes storage possibilities)and something more industrial looking, like the Udden series, which would allow easy viewing of the various things. This console with the stainless top is pretty cool looking, and fairly well priced at $192. It also comes with red doors!!
I have room along one wall for 12 feet worth (3 of these),and could putthe L-desk in the opposite corner with shelves above. That would be a quick and easy way to organize the space, but would I be happier with built-ins??? Also, where would I put files? Is there a compatible file unit at Ikea?
I love the Pax closets. I'm just afraid the cost will be huge by the time I get all the cool accessories, and I'm really loving my big kitchen drawer bases, basic though they are. Many things to ponder. Thanks for all the ideas, guys! Keep em coming!

DH definition
DH usually means Dear Husband (or, pick your own adjective starting with D).
Kathy, I've got a few ideas for you. I'd be tempted to increase your storage over what's available in that UDDEN unit, given what I know about craft supplies breeding. You're going to need a good long, clean workspace and lots of drawers, or at least a bunch of smallish, organized spaces for your different crafts, no? Ok. Here's one unit that I think will work well for you:
Put the larger VARDE worktop on it:
Use the smaller VARDE worktop (or another NUMERAR/PRAGEL/PRONOMEN) countertop of choice over top of two of these EFFEKTIV file units:
It's a fabulous mix of things! I can't imagine the luxury of a shoes-only cabinet! The Varde line was one of the first things I thought of, but they seem a bit expensive to merely store craft supplies. I need to start haunting the as is room - I actually saw of bunch of Varde there before I thought of this project. I do love that look - big and solid. Think I feel an Ikea trip coming on...
jellybean -- the word that I had was that it was to be becoming available. That was in December. I'll send out an email seeing if I can get any updated information, and I'll report back anything I hear on the Updates and Announcements thread. Keep an eye out!
