I am trying to work out a lighting solution to make the tracing glass usable. LEDs provide lots of pinpoint lights but not quite enough brightness to be very good. They are cool - as in not producing a lot of heat. Most light boxes (and x-ray 'illuminators' or viewing boxes) seem to use fluorescent lamps.
So before I attempt to reinvent the wheel, I'm wondering if any Ikea fans have solution ideas and/or examples that they may have used or seen. Ikeas products are OK, but so are others as well.

I tried some strip LEDs from Costco that are similar to Ikea's Dioder but found they were not bright enough and did not light evenly. I'm wondering if Ikea Non strips (T5 8W fluorescent) would fit and be suitable.
They might, however you really have to place them several inches away from the glass to get a good light bloom on the glass, maybe 2-4" away. So it might require hacking something together to make it work. An actual light box is a metal box with three or four fluorescent lamps inside, spaced evenly and 2-4 inches from the glass so the light has a chance to spread out.
One thing to keep in mind is that Vika Blecket has a hollow core, so any screws you put in might not work very well. Just something to keep in mind.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but I can't seem to find the Vika Blecket top anywhere -- in all of the mid-Atlantic stores (from PA to VA) it seems to be out of stock with no estimated delivery date.
Does anyone know if it's been discontinued, or what's happened? I'm willing to drive 6+ hours for this top if it's in stock.
Sadly, Vika Blecket has been discontinued. Our store depleted its stock about 3 weeks ago and we won't be getting anymore.
I recommend the Galant tabletops, when used with the height adjustable A-Legs can be tilted by lowering the two front legs, making them into a drawing table.
