Hello Ikeafans, I have Galant desk setup and recently have been experiencing tendonitis/carpal tunnel like pains in my right arm. Mostly from using my Kensington Expert mouse trackball. I was gifted with long arms and a short torso. I find my shoulders are hunched upwards (dealing with neck issues as well, hope it's not a pinched nerve) and my arms along with them are generally strained when working on my computer.
I was thinking of raising the A-legs on my Galant desk a little and buying a proper, adjustable, articulating platform for my keyboard and mouse. To get my hands, arms and shoulders to rest as naturally as possible.
The main problem with the Galant system is the metal bars underneath of course which make most articulating arms difficult to mount.
I've read a few threads and found the idea of hollow standoffs as one option.
I wondering about another solution and wanted to see if anyone has tried it or has thoughts on it in theory. Thinking of mounting a couple of 2x2's or some plywood, try to get it flush or protrude a little, to the Galant metal frame underneath. Then mount the articulating arm to the wood.
Drilling into the metal frame not a good idea? I could mount the wood to the underside of the table but I feel like it would be less secure depending on the overall weight of the wood + articulating platform.
PS, would love to buy that drawer for my Galant desk but $45!
The idea of adding thickness to the underside of the table top is a great idea. The 2x2's will more than clear the underframe; I think 3/4" plywood will leave you just a little bit short of the frame.
The one thing to keep in mind is that the top is only 3/4" thick, so be careful with any hardware that you might use to do this.
