We are moving into a new home with a long room in which I would put my 3 sons aged 9,11 and13
I can split the room into 2 rooms or use clever placing of ikea furniture
I am interested if anyone has comments on the very high loft bed?
I could get that for my teenage son, but it looks very dangerously high
thanks!
I am looking forward to hearing from all the ikeafans experts on this one
We had the Tromso single loft bed for our son, which worked fine until he was about 9 or 10. At that point, he would hit his head on the ceiling when he sat up in bed, so we had to cut it down. When it was high, we put his desk underneath it, now we have two dressers for his clothes there and a very cool secret hiding place behind them.
We also had a pine loft bed for our DD, with a sofabed under it. She got too tall about the same age, so we redid her room completely rather than cutting down the bed.
First pic is the old Tromso, second is the cut-down version, third and fourth are the pine loft bed.
I put the tromso loft in my son's room, but will probably also be cutting it down at some point to give him more head room (he's 8).
For my daughters' room, it used to be a family room, and I added 2 PAX wardrobes to create a "wall" (bolted to a wall and down). So now we have a hallway to the kiddos' rooms and the girls have a super cool closet. Perhaps you can add a pax system in their room to divide, or even one of the cube-type shelving units (I forget their names).
Adding a pipe clamp to the Tromso loft bed is a good idea for stability. Any sort of wall attachment is a good idea when it comes to bunk beds anyways.
We've got the Tromso loft bed for my 12-yo son, but it seems a little wobbly and I think we're going to have to either attach it to the wall pretty soon or figure out some other way to stabilize it better (does anyone else have this problem?).
My daughter, OTOH, has an older pine loft bed that is much shorter and seems much more stable.
I hadn't thought about cutting it down the taller loft bed--how does that affect the usability of the space underneath? DD's bed is kind of...too cozy for comfort, and I'm only 5'5".
The other cube type shelving system is Bonde, great system btw .
We've got two tall bond units in our daughter's room and it has completely fixed her inability to keep her clothes off the floor.

Wow thanks everyone for the feed back! all while I was sleeping here in Oz I never thought of the bumping head issue with the high loft bed Another problem with our current metal bunk bed is they noisy creaking when anyone is in it, causing the boys to shoosh eachother a bit
yes I was also thinking of using pax as a room divider, has anyone got photos of this idea put to use ? Tamara

I saw this on Apartment Therapy and thought of you... It's not Pax but could inspire a room...
