ekeskog sofa bed

Hi
I was thinking of buying the ekeskpg sofa bed (tall husband) but it's not available to try in ourlocal store ( cardiff - uk ). Has anyone sat on it and is it as comfortable as the plain sofa?
Thanks
AM

Re: Ekeskog sofa bed

Hi,
We do have an Ekeskog Sofa Bed. It is a very comfy sofa, we love it and I just signed up on this website to see if somebody was talking about it.
When I bought the sofa (in an other Ikea before we moved to our current place), there was no bed-sofa for demonstration as well, we have been explained that to make it a bed, a trundle would slide from underneath and with the padded-bench it makes a complete 2 pers. bed (= 2 singles attached). Ok so far and it is a rather comfortable bed.

We just assumed that the bed-sofa was exactly like the non-bed sofa, but I have to mention that the structure of the bed sofa differs slightly from that of the non-bed sofa: in the bed-sofa the cushions are not flat and laying on the bench like on the non-bed sofa, but cut in such way that the fronts of the cushions are on the edge of the flat bench (which is one part of the bed and is quite comfortable to sleep on) and therefore after some use they tend to slip forward and down. So you have to put them back in the right position.
Technically the weight of the cushions moves towards the front of the cushions, so as you seat on the cushions, you push them slightly forward each time. The tough Velcro bands on the cover that hold them on (and not to) the bench are good but eventually the cover slips as well.
Our cover eventually got torn (a bit too quick of a wear and tear in my opinion) where the back of the sofa and the bench meet, the part of the fabric (not of the same nature as the visible part of the cover) is squeezed in between the two parts, but cannot hold the traction of cushions for ever.... so I am choosing a new cover.

I know that the conception is such that the overall sofa seat is not too high, but I would have rather gotten the flat cushions with a slightly higher seat and I was wondering if there was a way to improve the bed-sofa or just some system to hold the cover in place underneath the cushions.
One last thing to mention, some of my friends found that it is too high (they have shorter legs than I and my husband have) and their feet are just dangling off the sofa,... my kids do not care and love it too (a bit too much sometimes ) .

Re: ekeskog sofa bed

pndrfam,
I agree with you about the Ekeskog 's tendency to slip off. The velcro just doesn't seem to hold the cushion in place well enough, and it becomes a bit of a pain when guests come over and one has to constantly adjust the sofa.

That said, the bed itself is probably the most comfortable sofa bed I've ever been on. My guests agree too. Unfortunately, my wife and I tend to avoid sitting on the bed because of the problems with the cushions sliding off. So the sofa, while comfy, often just sits there with no one actually using it. Sad, but true.

If anyone has figured out a way to keep the cushions from sliding off, I'm all ears.

Thumbs down Re: ekeskog sofa bed

Yikes. I wish I had read this thread a couple of months ago. I did Google search " Ekeskog reviews" but discussions on this site are not public. *cough*

Anyway. I bought the Ekeskog with Double Bed and really want to exchange it for the single bed. The "Love It or Return It" policy is kind of vague. It seems to be carte blanche for mattresses, but all other merchandise needs to be in the original package. Obviously, I did not keep the boxes this couch came in.
Since it was also delivered, I'm expecting them to come pick it up and bring me a single bed in exchange (and refund me the difference). I suspect I'm asking a lot. I don't really view Ikea as big into customer service. I guess I'm about to find out.

I think it's absurd to have to constantly adjust the cushions. We had company Saturday night and I must have excused myself and picked the seat cushions up to reposition them 5 times.

Thanks for posting the picture. That's exactly what happens to our sofa.

Re: ekeskog sofa bed

The picture previously posted says it all! The same thing happened to our sofa and we kind of fixed the problem. As I previously said the fabric got torn, so we used the holes made through the torn fabric to place few hooks at the junction between the back and the seating frames, then we attached the cushions to the hooks with strings. We can remove the cushions when needed, they still slip a bit but it is not so bad, see our picture attached when the cushions have slipped.

Lalato said "the bed itself is probably the most comfortable sofa bed I've ever been on" and [we and] our guests totally agree on this, they even tend to oversleep....

Re: ekeskog sofa bed

I have this exact sofa, with the same exact problem. It is very comfortable to sleep on but when guest come they slowly find themselves headed toward the floor. I wouldn't suggest purchasing this one. At Ikea Covina they have a floor model with the same problem. No one at Ikea agrees there is a problem with it though.

Re: ekeskog sofa bed

Yeah, truestori, I couldn't believe that either. They've been selling this product for 9 years, too! They really believe that velcro solves the problem. Even though it's not sewn in the right place to be effective. :/

I did return mine and exchanged it for a single bed Ekeskog (which is really just a couch, there's no bed... but that's what they call it).
But yeah... I tried to argue my way into getting free shipping for at least the return on the grounds of poor design but no, they charged me $99 to come and get their lousy junk of a double bed Ekeskog. AND they charged me $199 delivery fee for the new one, even though the delivery company only made one trip. :/ At least I was able to return it or I'd be really steamed.

Single bed Ekeskog is the bomb though! It's been about 5 days since the exchange and I'm very happy.

Re: ekeskog sofa bed

Oh! And to all people who come to this thread pondering the question "Should I get a single bed Ekeskog , or a double?", don't miss this cross section picture I took of the double. Ekeskog cross section on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Now that I have a single, I should take a similar picture so you can see them side by side. There's nothing surprising to see with the single though. It's cushions are uniform depth front to back.

Exclamation Re: ekeskog sofa bed

To all people who come to this thread wondering about Ekeskog sofas in general, I would like to say that I discovered yesterday while visiting my local Ikea, that the Ekeskog sofa is apparently going off the market . I have been told that they are stopping it (is it the case everywhere? I do not know). At my local store the regular sofa was quite discounted, as well as the cheapest slipcover, but not the other ones .

So it is the moment to buy an extra cover for your bed sofa, for the non-bed/not convertible version you can still try Bemz.com (found on this IkeaFans website) which has great choice of fabrics. Lucky you....
