| Be green by getting green so you can save some green ... but you didn't want green.
To clarify - Be green (save energy) by getting green (green bulbs, that is) so you can save some green (clearance priced + ongoing energy savings) ... but you didn't want green (because it's unpractical).
Anyways, we all pretty much know the virtues of CFL bulbs ... but in the mini-base, they all cost more. Normal white ones are $9 for a pair at Ikea - it's a supply and demand thing, y'know.
So here's a way to get 'em some for cheap. At my local store, they're cleranced price at 99-cents.
Art. # 200.945.02 is a pair of 7W CFL. Only issue is that they're green, and the light output puts it in the realm of a dim night light.
Luckily, it's green color is only because of a silicone cover over the bulb exterior itself. Just gently cut the cover at the base with a razor blade, remove, and you're left with a clear mini-base CFL. Simple enough, right? Just verify that the bulb works before cutting the cover off, as I doubt they'll take it back if it's modified.
