We have a sleep number and though I'm not completely sure what the Malm frame looks like I think it will work. It basically needs to completely support the mattress with a firm platform the whole way across.

Instead of the Sultan Lade slats, use a couple sheets of 3/4" (or thicker) plywood across.
You still need the midbeam, though.
Also, if you haven;t bought the mattress yet, go try it out first. It's been a hit-and-miss ... and not one that's affordable at that. Various reviews also complain of poor customer service too.
I can give one review - we've had ours for 2+ years and still love it as much as ever. We also have 2 friends who've bought after us (and 2 before us) and all 5 really love it... But yes, try it out first because everybody feels differently.

I got to try one out staying at a Radisson hotel recently while on a trip with my mother - it wasn't a cheap way to try it out, but it was cheaper than a multiple thousand dollar mistake. Anyway, I found it to be quite comfortable, and if nothing else, it was amusing annoying my mother by deflating and reinflating it repeatedly while she tried to go to sleep. Yes, I can be juvenile at times.

Midbeam?
Oh, and I've had the bed for a couple of years now and love it.
I recently set up a sleep number 3000 / Malm combo. I bought an extra set of slats (had three left over on each row of slats). This left a nice small gap where the slats end at the headboard for the tubing from the air pump.
I put a layer of foam (the thin cheap foam that i had left over from installing tundra flooring) over the slats just to smooth it out a little.
