Adding castors to Vika Byske legs

I am finishing a laundry room where I am using Numerar countertop as part of the kitchenette. I want to construct a tall, rolling table, using the same countertop. It will go over my washer and dryer as a work station.

I plan to use a 96 7/8" x 25 5/8" piece of Numerar countertop with 4 Vika Byske legs...but need to add castors. According to Ikea they do not do that, but (on the side) I could try to retrofit them. Any ideas? Gwen.

Re: Adding castors to Vika Byske legs

I wouldn't use any of the legs in the Vika lineup for a something of this size, nor for such a heavy top - they aren't designed for that.

The Galant legs are a lot sturdier, and they do have ones with casters too ...

... except they aren't height adjustable. You will need an underframe for this, though, so that would add a like an 1 or so in height at the ends.

Still, I think it's extremely pushing it to have an 8-ft. span without any additional support mid-way - the top will sag. Besides, these tops are HEAVY; it'll be like moving a stove in and out all the time.

(I should know how heavy they are ... I pulled a muscle in my hand helping to lift one of these countertops,)

Re: Adding castors to Vika Byske legs

It's funny...I was just at IKEA this weekend researching the exact same scenario...making a table/counter of sorts to go over my front loading washer and dryer. None of the legs seem to be just right...they're all too short, and I'm not crazy about the chrome adjustable leg, it's a little big, I think. I also thought of the legs-on-casters idea, and thought that I might be able to roll out the table occasionally to do some projects on the big high worktable.

At the moment, I'm considering getting the Gallant tabletop (I like that it's thin but sturdy) and using some big ol' brackets...then the work surface will "float"...here's a link to some brackets that I think will do the job:
Products of FastCap 888-443-3748
They're called SpeedBrace and made by FastCap.

Put up pix if you end up doing it! I will if I ever get around to it, too!

Good luck!
