My daughter has a very traditional French-y cottage bedroom. Old armoire, beadboard wainscoting, blue gingham, antique iron bed....and absolutely the dumbest closet known to man and main storage is these uber awful melamine bookcases that are all getting out of alignment (no, not IKEA!)

I'm thinking of taking her "storage wall" bookcases out and replacing them with wall cabinets...especially in light of the coming 12" deep drawers. Those cabinets would house books, toys, and clothing - behind closed doors so that I am not constantly assaulted by visual clutter in that space.

The wall is 10' and some change and I have 2 48 7/8 PRONOMEN narrow countertops to use, so I'd be happy to make my storage area conform to that size.

Does anyone know the widths of these rumored drawers?

Lisa - torrus said "there will also be 12" deep (ie. front to back) drawers available: 15, 18, and 24" widths". I couldn't tell if they will be the shallow or deep ones. I'd love to see a whole wall cabinet of just drawers.

I so can not wait for these drawers to come in so's we can get an idea of how to use them in our design!

So, Lisa....(Happy Birthday to M [before you freak out, you mentioned your now 6 year old daughter somewhere, so I figured, being the smartie that I am, that she had a birthday], btw),...wall cabinets only? At base cabinet height for short people to reach? Wall cabinets above as well? How about 2 24" wide wall cabinets at either end of the room with a 19 5/8" PAX unit in the middle? Laundry at the bottom, hanging clothes in the middle, drawers for out of season stuff at the top?

Eh?

Wall cabs at base height. Her room is pretty small, so I need the low narrow profile of the 30" wall cabs. Of course, since they are going onto white beadboard...I was actually thinking Fagerland to play off her armoire...but I bet I'll pass out at the price.

Her hanging clothes live in the armoire...but I need space for socks, underwear, etc.

And yep - a birthday, 3/6. She got a santuko knife (better for her knife skills than a French chef's knife)and a new Le Creuset "Petite Chef" apron from me and raised over $200 for our local Humane Society by asking for donations instead of gifts *beams proudly*

You go proud Mama! If you send us your mailing address by Private Message, I'd be glad to send a check!

Ok, so 4 24"x30" base cabinets. We'll say Fagerland...how expensive can it be? Plus, there's an Antique Pine wardrobe unit that would still be handy for laundry and say...craft supplies, and such. No?

Ouch...just did it in the planner, and came up with $464. That's just for the Fagerland wall cabinets. How can that be? $116 a peice, that's how. How about 2 and save your extra countertop for another day?

The PAX wardrobe unit, if you're interested is $128:

Looks like a nice match for Fagerland. Wonder what insides fit in it...

Lisa, does she have a designated desk/craft area elsewhere? If not, how about three base cabs and 24" just of countertop?

Re wall cabs for clothes: just keep in mind that once she's bigger, they may be a little too shallow to fit folded t-shirs, jeans and sweaters.
