Lightbulb Malm Kingsize Bed - older instructions

Hi guys

I’m hoping someone can help as I’ve had no joy from Ikea.

I need the instructions for the Malm Kingsize bed and have downloaded them from this site and also from Ikea. However, these instructions appear to be from a newer or different design as they are not exactly the same as my bed.

My problems is that I am missing the bolts that connect the headboard to the side beams, I got some bolts from Ikea but as mentioned before, it appears as the design has changed as there is no way these are compatible with my bed (they are the same kind of bolt system as the base board connecting to the beams, which the newer version also has at the headboard end)

Has anyone got the older Malm instructions of have any idea what the part number of the bolts is because I contacted Ikea and they said without a part number they wouldn’t be able to trace them and even if I did, they may not stock them anymore as it is/could be an older discontinued model.

Short of gluing the dowels and headboard to the side beams I don’t know what to do and at present I’m sleeping on the mattress on the floor so if anyone could help it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

Re: Malm Kingsize Bed - older instructions

The screws and barrel nuts you're looking for are similar to the ones used in some current versions of IKEA beds, like the Hemnes and Brekke beds. If you can find the instructions for a Hemnes bed (on the "Instructions" forum here, perhaps), you'll be on the right track. The only question would be whether the Hemnes screws are long enough to fit your Malm bed - it's worth a try.

Re: Malm Kingsize Bed - older instructions

Hi Sandra

Unfortunately they have changed the assembly design of the beds so of they are the same as the ones available on this site they are no good, thanks anyway.

Chuck,

I ordered the bolts and barrel nuts for the Hemnes bed as they looked to be the right things. However, I received them yesterday and they are not quite the same, the bolts need to be longer and the barrels also need to be longer as to go deeper into the frame to be able to work.

Nice try though and it nearly worked.

A friend of mine has the same bed and is moving house next weekend, so my plan is to borrow his fixings and take them to a local nut & bolt store to see if they have anything like it.

I’m still holding on to see if anyone has the old instructions available to scan too so I can get the correct part numbers and contact Ikea to see if they still stock them.

Thanks for your help guys and I’ll let you know how I get on, but if anyone has the old insructions if they could let me know it'll be very much appreciated!

Steve
