Hello there fellow IKEAfans!

I am a new number to the forum..and what a blessing it's been so far. I am a "Craigslist Queen" as well..my husband and I just moved into our first house and have acquired a LOT of IKEA furniture (most from the DC "Free Stuff" thread). Of course, they didn't come with instructions, so now we need to figure out how to put it all together.

I just downloaded the Expedit instructions, but I really need the instructions for a Billy Corner Shelving unit that has now been discontinued (the College Park store says it was discontinued a couple of seasons ago)....they say it has now been replaced with the corner unit piece of hardware. The unit looks like the shelves are diamond shaped...if that rings a bell to anyone.

We also have a Galant desk (the table top with the left sided cut in), but the previous owner stuck on the wrong frame. Is there any way to fix that and replace with the correct frame?

My recollection is that the Billy corner unit went together in a manner similar to the regular unit, with the addition of the solid back element. You'd attach the three fixed shelves (top, middle and bottom) using two long screws and barrel nuts per side (four per shelf), doing one side first, then the other. This is best accomplished with the unit laying on its face, so that you can roll it one way or the other, depending on which side you're attaching. Once the two sides are secured, leave it face down and use the coarse threaded screws (2 per shelf) to attach the solid back piece. The two flimsy back pieces slide into the grooves in the sides and back, and get nailed into the 3 fixed shelves.

As for the Galant desk, are you sure it's not from the old Effektiv series, and that's why you think the frame is "wrong"? The Galant tops are the same size and shape as the old Effektiv pieces, but with fewer options.

If the desk is in fact Galant, frames are available at your local IKEA - you'd need the frame for a corner table top. There is no left/right designation for the frames - you make it that way when you assemble the frame.
