It’s not often that Chuck Shapiro, a 25 year veteran owner and founder of A-P-A-R-T/Together and one of the very first IKEA Assembly and Installation providers in North America, gives his stamp of approval on an IKEA hack or modification. Chuck holds high standards for safety and of course, functionality and is the go-to guy for answers to all manner of questions about the interior construction, engineering or stability of almost any IKEA peice, new or old.

Dan over on trandi.wordpress.com has completed an amazing bit of IKEA Hacking.  He built a custom bluetooth interface inside an IKEA SPOKA light and then wrote an android app that lets him control the colors of the SPOKA remotely from his android phone.

Just imagine having several of them around a room all color changing in sync either manually or controlled by an automated bit of software on the phone that syncs it to music etc?  Very cool indeed.  Dan posted the video above as well as providing a VERY in depth article complete with schematics, code etc that show exactly how he did it. Our hat is officially doffed to you Dan – amazing work!
