IKEA is counting down to the US Inauguration and they’re setting up an Oval Office Planner to let you help redecorate the Oval Office! Go IKEA!
This is HIGH-larious! The two secret service agents enter the room and struggle to get the couch through the door. I wonder what goodies IKEA will provide in the planner? Will President Obama be able to have the much-loved but now discontinued Jerker desk?
When you submit your email to get an email notification when the Oval Office Planner is up and running, you get the response, “Registration victorious! You are a part of the movement!” Personally, I can’t wait.

This is a 100% DIY IKEA Adel White kitchen that I am seriously lusting after. Doesn’t help much that my own kitchen layout is strikingly similar. I love the colors chosen, and I love having yet another example of a traditional kitchen done in IKEA cabinets.
Dalbrough tells us much more about it in her thread, ‘The little kitchen that could and did…’ but I’ve excerpted some here:
When we purchased our home 9 years ago I really didn’t like the tiny 11 X 12 odd shaped space with three door ways in it kitchen as I spent more and more time in that space I actually grew to literally hate it. After flip flopping trying to decide if we were going to put an addition on to give us more space we decided with a ton of help from everyone here at IkeaFans that due to our personal situation with my Mom and so much on the go we would just renovate the space we had. It being a very small space lots of planning and once again much help from everyone here we are now utilizing the space to the absolute best use of every square inch and it is now the little kitchen that could and did……and I love it – I really love it.
Dalbrough did some wonderful modifications in her kitchen to suit her specific needs, including some you see above, such as the dog food storage, the wine rack above the fridge made out of cover panels, and the slim 3″ storage for cookie sheets next to the sink. In the photos below, you can see that she used 2 cabinets to create a blind upper corner cabinet (a cabinet that IKEA doesn’t offer). It turned out beautifully!

A few years ago, my wife and I were walking through Ikea and she spotted a set of white dishes with a large star printed in the center. They were relatively normal looking dishes with the exception of the star. She made mention how much she liked them and I marked down a mental note to pick some up for Christmas.
Christmas came around and I went to pick up a set only to find they’d been discontinued. We still walk around looking for those plates when we’re in the store (like ghosts haunting a department store). I’ve called the store and nobody can source them or even get a name. I checked Replacements.com for Ikea pattern names, ebay, craigslist, etc. Does anyone have the name of this set? I think my searches will be a lot more productive if I can search by name. Bonus points if you can tell me where to buy a set.
A quick search through my catalogs from 2001 - 2007 turned up nada, and likewise with a cursory search at eBay. I found dishes with starfishes, and dishes with sun spirals but no dice on the stars.
Can anyone help shed light on the name of these dishes? Let’s make one woman’s holiday shine!
UPDATE: IKEA Product IDENTIFIED!
Sorry for the delay, beatle!
I’ve been racking my brains since you posted. I remembered the dishes, because I nearly bought them myself, but I couldn’t for the life of me remember the name. And then, this afternoon when I revisited your post, there it was!
Here’s what I know: The dishes were called ENSTA, it was a 33-pc set, and their article # was 501.129.29. I’ve uploaded a pic to help aid in your search (it’s not great — sorry.)
The unfortunate news is that these dishes were manufactured as “Free Range” for IKEA… usually a limited contract with a supplier for a single or set of products that are ordered in quantity once and never are seen again. This may make your search more than challenging.
Good luck!!

And long-standing rumors have finally been answered about an IKEA in Winnipeg, Canada - IKEA Canada announced that they will be opening the largest IKEA in Canada in Winnipeg, Manitoba, British Columbia between late 2011 and 2013.

Our friend @thetattooedmama over on Twitter (Follow us!) sent us pictures of her fantabulous IKEA office today. I love it (and anyone that knows me can tell you that I’m no lover of orange, but this is just so…well, cute and bright!) and thought I’d share! Nice and cheerful on a rainy, cold morning - just what the doctor ordered!
I’m guessin’ a JONAS desk, SKRUVSKA chair and LACK side table. What’s the futon? The rug? Is it IKEA? And the name of the curtains? If you know, let us know! What else can you spot that’s IKEA?

Lots of great tips on installing an IKEA kitchen from ikeafan60657
Lesson #1: If you find yourself having to drill a hole “because obviously something’s wrong with the way it was drilled at the factory,” STOP. Ikea has done this before. You have not. You are doing something wrong. Flip the piece over or try it in the opposite direction….see? That’s better.
Lesson #2: You need regular hinges for the pull-out baskets and 153 degree hinges for drawers. You cannot put both baskets and drawers in the same cabinet. You cannot put a drawer at the very bottom of a cabinet with hinges. Nothing you can do will change these facts.
I should clarify…you can put a basket in a cabinet with a 153 degree hinge, but the hinge cannot go next to the basket…it’s too large. So, if you intend on putting a basket at the very bottom of a cabinet with a 153 degree hinge, you’re out of luck…the hinge will run into the basket. If you raise the basket to other areas of the cabinet, away from the hinges you should be ok.
Regarding the no drawer all the way at the bottom, I should have said, no pull-out shelf. The mechanism overlaps the area where you would put a hinge. The only way to get one there is to do a pull-out pantry or actual drawers…no swinging doors.
Lesson #3: While you may be able to take your old cabinets down yourself or put new uppers up, yourself, there is a risk of serious injury in doing so. Ask for help. It’s ok. Really.
Lesson #4: Figure out which sink and faucet and soap dispenser you are going to use and build a template for their placement out of plywood before you assemble your sink cabinet. You may need to trim your sink cabinet and it’s way easier to do it before everything is put together. I learned this the hard way. “No, that bruise on my eye does not mean that I’m in an abusive relationship…I just hit my face on the underside of my garbage disposal while sawing an inconveniently-placed piece of sink cabinet.” It just sounds bad.
Lesson #5: If you use an upper cabinet as a lower cabinet, use a saw and cut off the overhanging parts from the back of the top and bottom. It makes it oodles easier to fasten the cabinets together. If you don’t do it and try to flip the island over, it’s entirely possible for the lip to ’slip’ over/under the other cabinet and break a cabinet. That sucks when it happens, because it took a lot of effort to find someone to help you that day and now you can’t finish.
Lesson #6: Wear eye protection. Those brads like to fly around, and they’re especially hard to put in on the ‘lip’ sides of upper cabinets. Remember, installing an IKEA kitchen is only fun until someone loses an eye.
Lesson #7: If you’re installing an in-the-cabinet hood/fan, install the door hinge before you install the fan unless you have freakishly small fingers or freakishly dexterous small children willing to help you.
Lesson #8: If IKEA says “we’re backordered, but should have them in stock in three months” learn from those of us who were told that almost a year ago when we wanted to order Nexus Black-Brown. Just pick another door style and get on with your life.
