Leko - The IKEA Concept Car

Friday, March 27th, 2009 by Tigratrus

IKEA France has all the automotive world and environmental enthusiasts talking about an IKEA Concept Car, Leko (see micro-site).  An official announcement will be made April 1st, which is also the beginning of France’s Sustainability Week.

According to Pierre Deyries, the Director of Sustainable Development at IKEA France,

What I can confirm is that IKEA France has decided to support a new car system, which is:

  • cheaper and more responsible than any car on the market,
  • allows customers to spend less on fuel,
  • is adapted to the products the customer wants to bring home,
  • is based on cooperation with others.

Leko and the french branch of the World Wildlife fund have also announced a partnership to help the environment and fight global warming. In the WWF press release on March 12, they stated that their first joint effort would be announced during Sustainability Week. We’ll be watching!

Susan Jablon Mosaics Sponsors Backsplash Forum at IKEAFANS

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 by Tigratrus

“What people remember about you is how you made them feel.”

Words of wisdom shared by Susan Jablon’s father, and words she’s used as her guiding principle in her business, Susan Jablon Mosaics.  That certainly seems like a good rule to live by from our perspective! And it’s very much in keeping with the community atmosphere here at IKEA Fans.

So when we talked with Susan recently (she answers her own phone, you know!), about the Susan Jablon entry in our new IKEA Fans Directory, we weren’t surprised that we found her to be as genuine and down to earth as everybody has always said.  “I take particular pride in the relationships I develop with my clients,” says Susan, and it’s evident that she knows how to make people feel good.  (See for yourself! Search results for Susan Jablon on IKEA Fans Forums)  Susan and her daughter Emily take a special interest in their customer’s projects and love to help design a custom blend.  If you’re more the DIY type, you can use the online Custom Blend Tile Designer to create your own blend like IKEAFANS member MiamiBeach did in this gorgeous Linjär Blue kitchen:

We enjoyed talking to Susan so much that we asked if she would be interested in sponsoring the Backsplash | Splashback forum and she agreed! You can direct a question at Susan and/or Emily Jablon to answer by using the Thread Prefix [Ask Susan Jablon], which is available when you create a thread in the Backsplash | Splashback forum.

We’re also looking forward to being able to offer IKEAFANS some special opportunities for saving with Susan Jablon and for sharing your projects with IKEAFANS.  Look for more information on IKEAFANS Connect in the coming days and weeks!

Check out the Backsplash | Splashback forum in the IKEA Forums and chat with Susan and Emily Jablon about Mosaic Tile Design!

Ok, couldn’t resist - here’s one more gorgeous IKEA Fans / Susan Jablon kitchen from jgsearls:

Enjoy!

IKEA Dogs, Cats, Birds and other pet storage

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 by Tigratrus

No, we’re not advocating that you should store your pet in a cabinet… Though we have a couple cats that do that all by themselves! :-).  Mainly we were thinking about how many creative ways that IKEA Fans have come up with to store their various pet supplies!

The dogs seem to get most of the attention as shown by the wide variety of dog Food storage options that members have come up with:

Lots of IKEA Fans members have made customized cabinetry for their best friends of the four footed, feathered or finned varieties.  If you’ve done something special for your pets and their storage or accommodations, we’d love to hear about it!

IKEA PS Collection - Spring / Summer 2009

Sunday, March 8th, 2009 by Tigratrus

Thanks goes to ikeaopklompen for pointing us to the IKEA PS Collection for Spring and Summer 2009 (IKEA PS Summer 2009) brochure, and a great little document that provides the inspiration for different products - the stories that go along with them (IKEA PS Summer 2009 Product Background). No time to translate now, but the imagery is worth a peek!

Urban Camouflage in IKEA

File this under fun and funny!  I wish it were Friday!  Sigh…

From Urban Camouflage:

Urban Camouflage deals with the question how to camouflage
oneself and one’s identity in the urban space. Our costumes are
inspired by the «ghillie suits», the military camouflage suit. It was
an adventure to wear the suit in the stores because of the conflicts
with the employees, the reaction of the customers and also to see
the pretty well camouflage effect in a real situation.

Visit Urbancamouflage.de for more pics!  Thanks to TheInnovationDiaries.com for the tip!
