LACKing coat hooks? BJARNUM hooks to the rescue!

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 by Tigratrus

[nggallery id=17]bnj999 wanted to add some coat hooks to the LACK shelf just inside the door, but had some concerns about where and how to attach the screws.  That’s actually a really good thing to consider because the LACK is mostly hollow with a paper honeycomb structure.

After some discussion in the forum the hooks were screwed into the mounting positions in the corners where casters would be attached.  Ended up being a really quick and clean project with a great looking end result.  I love the sleek silver look of the folding BJARNUM Hinges against the dark LACK.  Just don’t hang anything  heavy on those hooks without attaching the shelf to the wall :-).  Thanks to bnj999 for sharing!

Quality Issue with Adel Medium Brown Doors made in China

Monday, April 27th, 2009 by Tigratrus

Quality Issue Affects Adel Medium Brown Doors Made in China

As noted in this thread in the IKEA Fans Kitchen forums:  Adel Medium Brown doors don’t match, there appears to be a quality issue with Adel Medium Brown doors manufactured in China, by supplier number 20995.  Adel Medium Brown doors made in Hungary don’t appear to be affected.  The following problems with Adel Medium Brown doors  (also known as AMB doors around these parts) made by a Chinese supplier have been identified:

  • the finish was very slick with a bright sheen
  • the color was pinkish (more like beech)
  • there was absolutely no grain evident in any of them
  • This issue was first noticed and reported at the IKEA store in Hicksville, NY.  Please check your orders before leaving the store, if at all possible and report any problems with the finish on AMB to the store manager immediately!

    IKEA Summer 2009

ROXO easy chair and tray table

Summer is coming! How do I know? Well, the kids are played outside all day and toward sunset, we all took a walk into town while the grill warmed. When we got home, we warmed corn tortillas while beans bubbled and garlic-lime chicken got char-broiled. Afterwards, we let the kids run wild with leftover sparklers and had a beer. Ahhhh…blissful summertime.

Oh! And we were reminded of the IKEA Summer 2009 stuff! Fun, fun!

And now….for a bit of hyperbole and a recipe:

Susan’s World Famous Garlic Lime Chicken

    3-4 large cloves garlic
2 tablespoons sugar, honey or agave syrup
    2 tsp kosher salt
    2 tsp cracked black pepper
    10-12 drops tabasco
    4 oz fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon dijon mustard (not for flavor, but for emulsifying)
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
4 tablespoons cilantro chopped finely (you can sub part or whole parsley if you’re not a cilantro lover)
4 chicken breasts pounded to 1/2″ thickness or 3 pounds chicken tenders

Place garlic, sweetener, salt, pepper, tabasco in the bowl of a food processor and run until garlic is chopped.  Add a few teaspoons lime juice and run again until all garlic is finely chopped. Pour in the rest of the lime juice, drop in mustard and turn processor on. Through the chute, drizzle olive oil in a thin stream until all is incorporated. Toss in herbs and pulse once or twice to mix.

Marinate chicken in the refrigerator up to 4 hours, or for 20 minutes in a vacuum sealed container. If using chicken tenders, soak skewers for 1/2 hour prior to skewering meat.

Grill over medium heat until fully cooked -watch out for flames!  Enjoy with a nice Reisling, crisp salad and rice pilaf.  Or warm some corn or flour tortillas and serve with fresh salsa, sour cream, asiago, monterey jack and/or cheddar cheeses,  red onions or green onions and a good Mexican beer.  Any suggestions?
