IKEA Sweden has taken the Augmented Reality concept demonstrated in the student case study mentioned in our earlier post, Mobile Augmented Reality Application for IKEA PS Range and turned it into a reality to celebrate BILLY’s 30th birthday. All you need to try it at home is a webcam and a printer! How to after the jump!
First thing is to hit up the page on the IKEA Sweden site: BILLY 30 år (NSFW Warning: MUSIC plays automatically). It takes a while to load, but don’t miss the show! You’ll watch as the BILLY bookcase appears, disappears and reappears when and where the marker is placed on the floor.
Meanwhile, you can print out the marker from the pdf here at IKEAFANS to save some time. Make sure the whole thing prints – this is what is used to generate the image of the Limited Edition BILLY BJÄSTA in your room. Once you’ve seen the whole intro, you’ll be on the page where the application resides.
The application will walk you through each step:
1. Print out the marker
2. Activate your webcam, and allow the service access
3. Place the marker in your room
4. Save your finished picture!
Requirements:
- Latest version of Flash: Download Adobe Flash Player
- Sufficient Light
- Webcam
- Printer

So WHERE is the link to the App then !?!?!?
This was a special time-limited thing for BILLY’s 30th birthday. I’m not even sure it’s online any more, but if it is, there’s a link to it in the article. Or are you talking about a different app?
