Luis Rocha, an in-store designer (COM-IN for those in the know) recently re-designed the bedroom displays at the IKEA Burbank store. Heavy on dark woods and neutrals with shots of bright colors for accents, these bedroom designs run the gamut from hip and trendy to sleek and sophisticated, but thanks to IKEA, none of them will break the bank.
Says Rocha,
Luckily, budgets don’t dictate creativity, and a great bedroom can spring from a thin wallet. Start with a base in simple white and then paint the place with textiles. It’s an easy way to liven up a room without killing your budget.
Peggy Kovacic, Product Public Relations expert at the store, shared photos of all the new bedrooms with me. She also spoke with Rocha about his inspirations – see what inspired this decorator in each of five new room settings after the jump!
Hotel Inspired Sophistication
In this room, featuring a HOPEN bed in black-brown ($149 Full/Double, $179 Queen, $229 King), the palette is warm grays and dark browns, spiced up by a PERSISK oriental rug (from $99.99 to $1199). Luis got his inspiration from the ACE hotel in NY and Palm Springs; the design is described as bohemian, organic and hip.
Hot and Spicy
The TRONDHEIM White bed, dressser, underbed storage and nighttable in this room will run you less than $725 and you can spice it up any way you want! Rocha says, “Be brave by using bold colors and making the room appear larger by adding mirrors on the walls. Chose a high bed to fit under bed storage.”
Space Divided in Walnut
Filling a big space doesn’t have to cost a fortune – this room cost less than $1000 for the basics. Break the space up using big wall art as room dividers as Rocha did in this bedroom featuring the ENGAN line in Walnut. Very neutral, this bedroom could change from warm and cozy in the winter to cool and comfortable in the summer. Change the linens to change the mood!
Sleep Under a Canopy

Don’t limit yourself to using only one line of furniture. This bedroom features the HEMNES bed in white with a canopy made of IKEA fabric and hung on overhead curtain rods for a royal look. The nightstand with real porcelain pull is from the EDLAND line and is in a warm gray – one of IKEA’s color trends of the year.
Live the Loft Life
If you’re lucky to have high ceilings or you live in a loft, build a platform with built in storage (built with BESTÅ) to elevate the bed. For an even more dramatic look, put lights in the open spaces. The bed is a MALM in black-brown, but the headboard is made out of AKURUM Kitchen door fronts mounted on the wall alternating NEXUZS black brown doors with ABSTRAKT white high gloss ones. Clever! This VERY neutral design is accented with a single spot of color, making it easy to change the look and feel of the room with the seasons.

Excellent and inspirational. Thanks!
Great entry. Thanks for the pics.
That last picture looks nice, but I would never, ever, ever do that. Wake up at 4am to pee and you’re going to faceplant and break a bone.
