So, uh – like the song says…, “Baby, it’s cold outside…” And who wants to get out of bed? But it’s January, and if you’re like millions of other post-holiday peeps, you’ve got mounds of stuff just piled up looking for places to go. If you failed to do the pre-holiday due diligence and rid yourself of excessive things, right about now you’ve got some storage problems. It’s ok! We’ve got storage solutions!
Everything you ever wanted to know about getting organized without getting out of bed after the jump! (Ok, that last part might be a bit of hyperbole…)
SULTAN ALSARP as a Hidden Storage Solution
The SULTAN ALSARP box spring is a truly unique solution, and one that appeals to my ex-sailboat liveaboard’s passion for efficient space utilization. The ALSARP gives you total and easy access to the *INSIDE* of the box spring for storage! It’s a really clever and well implemented solution, and a nearly ideal for storing off season clothes and long term storage of all sorts of things.
The headboard end of the box spring is attached as a hinge with gas filled struts (like you’d find on a hatchback or the rear door of an SUV if it’s the type that swings up instead of to the side) and has ratcheting supports that will hold the whole thing securely UP so that you can take things in and out in safety. Raise it all the way up and the ratcheting supports release so that you can put the whole thing back down. The top of the box spring is made of a VERY solid steel frame with truly excellent slats made of high quality baltic birch style plywood (11 ply for 5/8″|15 mm thick) manufactured with a curve built into them. The end result is a rock solid system that provides superb support and an incredible amount of totally hidden storage.
In addition, the ALSARP fits perfectly into a NON-IKEA bedframe and leaves a lot of space underneath the bed for even more storage. If you’re not trying to use an existing bed, you can also simply attach one of four different styles of IKEA legs directly TO the ALSARP for a very clean, modern looking bed. Overall we’re totally impressed with the ALSARP; we’re even strongly considering buying two twin size ALSARPs so that we can trade out the inferior box springs we have on our King size bed, and double our storage space in our own room!

Hello – can you attach non-Ikea headboards to the SULTAN ALSARP?
Thanks!
Absolutely! The ALSARP is just a box spring. You don’t actually attach anything to it…it just sits underneath your mattress unless you have slats (for a low-lying, modern-style bed). I love this storage option!
Thank you, Susan! :)
Hi again – I called Ikea and if I use the Ikea legs that go with this boxspring, they say there is no way to attach a headboard to the bed. Any ideas? Thanks again!
