IKEAFANS member bludor, aka Lidija from Ljubljana, Slovenia, crafted a baby highchair cover from IKEA fabric to fit the ANTILOP high chair. Using IKEA textile fabrics from the PETRONELLA and SARALISA lines, Lidija fashioned some crafty covers to cushion and protect the little ones while hanging out in the chair. Catch the how-to after the jump, plus important information on a recall on LEOPARD highchairs!
ANTILOP Highchair Covers
This inexpensive highchair is a great buy at $19.99 and comes in white, red or blue but it has no cushion (ETA: IKEA offers the BARNSLIG support cushion, but it’s hardly an integrated solution) to pad and protect baby. Enter BluDor with her original pattern for a custom cover and cushion for the highchair.
On her blog she provides the complete photo tutorial with annotated pictures on how-to sew your own plus a downloadable .pdf pattern for the cushion cover.
Check out the BluDor blog for more fun stuff for kids made of IKEA fabrics.
IKEA Recalls LEOPARD Highchair
IKEA UK’s site notes that IKEA has recalled the LEOPARD highchair pictured below in black. Although it is not listed on the IKEA USA site, it has been spotted in stores since October (See post by DaddyTypes from October 10, 2009). It is important to note that IKEA US has not issued a formal recall on this item at this time, but there is an active recall on the product in the UK. The products affected by this recall are:
- LEOPARD highchair seat with safety belt transparent grey. 501-614-58
- LEOPARD highchair seat with safety belt red. 901-614-56
- LEOPARD highchair seat with safety belt black. 701-614-57
- LEOPARD highchair seat with safety belt white. 701-455-23
- LEOPARD frame with tray black. 101-455-21
- LEOPARD frame with tray white. 201-573-54
From the IKEA UK press release:
IKEA wants customers who have a LEOPARD children’s highchair to stop using the highchair immediately and bring the seat and frame back to the Exchange and Returns department at any IKEA store where they will receive a full refund.
Snap locks that secure the seat to the frame can break, making it possible for the seat to drop through the frame. Children could suffer injury. Detached snap locks also pose a choking hazard to children
IKEA has received eleven reports of broken snap locks, including one incident where the seat with child dropped through the frame. The child suffered bruised legs. In a second incident a detached snap lock was found in a child’s mouth but was removed before choking occurred. No further incidents or injuries have been reported
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
