IKEA KARLSVIK Sofa on Sale
There’s been some confusion on the $199 KARLSVIK sofa mentioned in the Black Friday Sale at IKEA: 2009 Bargains, Deals and Specials article posted yesterday. A rumor has been started that it’s actually a typo and the sofa on sale is the KARLSTAD (usually $399). NOT TRUE!
The sofa on sale is called KARLSVIK (aka KLAMBY) – it is not available in the online catalog, nor is it in the 2010 IKEA Catalog however according to IKEA, it was in the back of the 2009 catalog (page 372) and it was then called KLAMBY and was sold as part of a three piece set for $699. It is the sofa pictured above that is on sale for $199 – Saturday ONLY. See the entire IKEA Black Friday Seize the Days Sales Flyer
A KARLSVIK sofa was also listed for sale as part of a three piece set at IKEA Houston’s Blue Moon Sale (download IKEA Houston Blue Moon Sale Flyer .pdf) in June of 2009.
According to my reliable insider source,
The KARLSVIK sofa is the offer – not a 3 piece set, but just the sofa. The regular price is $299; sale price, $199. KARLSVIK was previously named KLAMBY and was sold as a 3 piece set and was in the back of the 2009 Catalog (a scan of the page from the catalog is attached), so maybe that is causing some confusion.
Clarification of the Meatball Offer
$1 IKEA Meatball plate is available on Black Friday, November 27, 2009 after 11am until the restaurant closes, and NOT ALL WEEKEND as previously reported. My bad!
Hope that clears it all up! Happy shopping everyone!

IKEA Black Friday Rumors Squashed

Klamby was the name put on the black cloth version of the Sater sofa that was $199 on Labor Day. It was advertised as a black cloth Sater but the label on it was Klamby (I got one). If indeed Ikea is putting that name now on the Karlsvik it’s really playing name games and I doubt that’s the case. Karlsvik’s been floating around Ikea’s from Europe to Houston for a while and it’s probably that.
Great info, thanks! I’m just reporting what I’ve been told. It is indeed labeled KLAMBY in the back of the 2009 catalog – and that’s essentially the same photo as in the Houston ad where it’s named KARLSVIK. The SATER sofa is an entirely different beast though – does yours resemble the SATER or the KARLSVIK?
Does anyone know the seat height of this sofa?
Would anyone be able to give me advice on the best approach to a buying this sofa on Saturday? I want to buy it on Saturday, make it a Christmas present for my dad. I’m planning on redecorating his apartment and think for the price, it would definitely fit my budget.Do I need to show up right at 10 am on Saturday? I’d hate for them to be sold out if we decide to change our mind and go with a different sofa altogether.
Christina – I’d get there at 9:30 and enjoy a FREE Breakfast. Make sure you know where to go (ask at the greeter’s station, usually bottom of the escalator) to get the sofa. Sometimes during Seize the Days sales, there will be coupons that you need to get in order to obtain the sale item. If you have the opportunity to go to the store before hand and ask what the procedure will be at your store, I would recommend that highly. All stores are a bit different, and I wouldn’t want to steer you wrong!
If you do find out what the procedure is, please update us here so others will have some prior knowledge of what they might expect. Good luck!
does anyone know if Ikea will be producing an ottoman for this livingroom set? That chair is screeming out for an ottoman!!
