IKEA has announced a the date for the grand opening of the IKEA Centennial, Colorado store: Fall 2011. With the hiring of Saunders Construction, and work permits in place it looks as though things are on track for the grand opening of this much anticipated IKEA Colorado store opening in late 2011! IKEA Denver fans rejoice! Get more details about the store opening, as well as the full press release after the jump!

IKEA Denver Store Opening Moves Forward

IKEA Denver fans have been anticipating the opening of an IKEA store in Centennial, Colorado but not much has been said about when it will open. That’s all changed as IKEA announces an opening date for the Colorado store:

In addition to 10,000 exclusively-designed items, IKEA Centennial will present approximately 50 different room-settings, three complete model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area and a 500-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries or salmon plates, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking and play areas throughout the store.
The 415,000 square-foot future IKEA Centennial, with approximately 1,500 parking spaces, will be built on 13.5 acres along the western side of Interstate 25 in the Park Meadows area, accessible from connections to Dry Creek Road and County Line Road exits, and will employ approximately 400 coworkers when the new store opens. The store will reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide. Also, IKEA Centennial will be the first U.S. IKEA store to incorporate a geothermal component as part of the heating and cooling system, so heat will be pumped either from or into the ground, depending on weather conditions.

Are we invited to the opening? That’s all I care about. I LOVE Denver. ModCon anyone? :D

  2. joe says:

Will there be a job fair? When will the hiring begin? IKEA would be a stellar job!

  3. Susan says:

Ususally IKEA starts the hiring process about 4-6 months before the opening. Typically, they employ 450 persons per store. Look for hiring signs in Spring – early Summer 2011 if the building process remains on track for a Fall 2011 opening date.

  4. Diana Ramirez says:

Please, Count with me to the gran opening……

  5. Moo says:

But it said there was a date? It just says Fall 2011…when is that ball-park?

  6. Nam Aum says:

I love IKEA!!! When I moved to Denver from Chicago about 5 years ago, I was so disapointed that IKEA is not in Denver. I am so exciting.
Please invite me and my husband at grand opening.

  7. David says:

IKEA is not yet ready to announce a specific opening date … still “Fall 2011″. Check out the opening countdown at http://ColoradoIKEAfans.com.

Regarding hiring, they had several openings posted during the December 2010 & January 2011 time frame. There currently is one Restaurant Lead position posted (http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/IrwJobSearch). I expect their full hiring effort to begin late Spring or early Summer.

  8. David says:

when can we start to apply fr jobs.

  9. Angela Gilpin says:

I also love this store, please invite me and my family to the grand opening!

  10. Blake says:

The store is an obnoxious eye sore to our end of town. I am sure that we could have found it without the obnoxious blue and yellow…not to mention the signpost to boot.

  11. Linda says:

Can’t wait! My son lives in the Springs so I would love to make the Grand Opening. I live in Iowa, any plans on starting construction here??

  12. Susan says:

Love IKEA!!!! Looking forward to them opening here. Good riddance American Furniture Warehouse!!!

  13. Lori says:

I totally agree about how hideous the store is! I am surprised none of the local news agencies have picked up on it yet. What is wrong with the city planners? All the other buildings in the Tech Center blend in beautifully with the natural browns and greens of our landscape. So what does IKEA do? Gigantic bright blue and yellow wall right along the western edge of I-25! They obviously don’t give a rip about our beautiful city.

  14. Rollie says:

I love Lonetree. They told IKEA they’d love to have them but they’d have to make their ’store’ more neutral. That being said, shame on you Centennial, IKEA just bent you over a table and you took it like a pro. I know these are trying times, and we could really use the jobs, but have some respect yourself. As for IKEA, I have to hand it to you, that’s one brilliant business model you’ve got, cheat your taxes, cheat your employees, and find the perfect location to sell 2nd class furniture to people who live far enough away from your store that they be hard put to return it in time for any kind you refund when your product falls apart. You really put the icing on the cake when paint up a monstrosity to be your warehouse that people can’t avoid looking at for miles. It is great advertising. However just so you know, you’re community HATES you! Everyday locals see your building and are filled with unspeakable anger, as you are little more then an obstruction to the beauty of this state. All your qualities are lost in the disgusting way you choose to present yourself. So you are on your own, everyone will be against you every step of the way hoping you fail. You have no respect for anyone, and don’t act so surprised that we have no respect for you.

  15. Staci says:

I love IKEA! I am thrilled Lonetree turned them down and Centennial was SMART enough to welcome IKEA!!!! I believe the negative people are the minority, most people are thrilled and excited to have IKEA in Colorado. If you are complaining about them you obviosly have never had an IKEA experience. I think IKEA ia a great addition to Centennial. I cannot wait until July 27th!!!!!

  16. Ikea_Lover says:

    Rollie,
I too live in Lone Tree/Centennial, and I am overjoyed by the fact that IKEA is coming to Colorado (and the location is perfect too!) In fact I’ve written IKEA every year for the last 12 years to get an IKEA out here. The furniture is beyond fabulous and the stability and construction is the best. I’ve had a wall unit from them for 15 years from Germany and it’s still holding strong, and better than any “furniture store” furniture from around here, I might add. The fact that you would speak for everyone is disheartening, because for every one person you find that hates the fact that IKEA is here, I can find 5 more to replace them that are elated with the arrival of the store. Shame on you for “wishing” their downfall. LONG LIVE IKEA!!!

  17. IKEA YAY! says:

HAHAHAHAH:ROLLIE, A bit bitter, eh? HAHAHAHAHA. Best laugh today was reading your ranting post. You are the perfect example of the kind of over-generalizing, closed minded individual that does not deserve to call CO your home. Most of the Coloradans I know are a progressive minded people who welcome IKEA, their jobs and their fine products to our lovely state/homes.

Have fun shopping at AFW for “fine” furniture products. lol.

    Onward and Upward baby!!!

  18. Stoked for IKEA says:

I am so excited for IKEA. I bought a couch there in college and had it for 12 years at least it was still going strong when I past it along to a friend. I cant wait until the GRAND OPENING!
