IKEA Fans member Espo shared an IKEA hack to shorten the length from front to back of an IKEA RATIONELL drawer in an AKURUM cabinet. This was necessary because of pipes for gaslines behind the cooktop above the drawer. Not wanting to lose the valuable storage space that a shallow drawer under the cooktop would provide, Espo came up with this clever hack:
How to Hack an IKEA Drawer into Submission
After some trial and error, I found it is possible to shorten a drawer to accomodate gas lines or other obstructions. I took some the ideas Chuck had done in the past, and added what I needed on my own to make it work and this is what I came up with. If the sides of the drawers don’t have any obstruction, you can simply cut down the bottom of the drawer, and trim the back piece to fit on the back of the drawer.
