Sorry to just be catching up on this now. I just tried the online version on my Mac. It’s not very useful for me.

In SketchUp, I can model my home the way it actually is, and use my design over and over again. I understand Jesper’s comment about learning SketchUp, but it is a very IKEA-centric view of things. I would much rather spend my time learning a universal design tool like SketchUp than learning a design tool that has no use to me outside of IKEA.

Jesper – why doesn’t IKEA put their models in SketchUp?

Great that you give us this kind of tool for the regular customer!

I will try it out. But I am more of a power user and would also like that you publish your 3D models in popular file formats like for example Kinnarp ( http://cadsymbol.kinnarps.se/ ) does. That makes it possible for me to keep using the more advanced tools.

Seriously, I loved the Besta storage planner when it was available. I’ve gotten it from someone at Ikeafans who gave me the US link and the EU link. The EU link has the white, but not the pricing.

I can tell you it is the best way to plan out your space. I’m shocked that Ikea is so behind the times, since their main business is about furniture planning.

Yes! The new planner will be an online tool, browser based and cross-platform compatible. So, mac users and pc users alike will be able to use it! Woo-hoo! Exact dates are unknown, but we’ll keep you in the loop!

Does this mean I will be able to use the Home Planner with my Mac computer ? How long before we see new version? Wish it was soon. I am planning my kitchen now.

Hi Beaulaker! The new version will be online, therefore cross-compatible. It is being tested in multiple browsers and across all platforms. 20-20 Technologies has a pretty sound background in providing this kind of technology – I have really high hopes for this new version of the IKEA Home Planner!

Well you’re probably going to get the planner a little sooner that the US, but I can’t say anything more regarding when it will be.
We’re running a first pilot within weeks and the outcome of that will of course influence the rollout plan for the rest of the world.

Anon:
The planner is in both metric and imperial today and will of course be in the future as well.

I live in Italy, and I will be an Ikea customer soon, for my new home that is under construction.

When the new Home Planner will be ready for download from http://www.ikea.it?

I mean the new version, provided with valid prices until august 2010.
