IKEA & Unicef team up to bring light to kids in refugee camps.

A Buy One Give One Sale!  That’s right, starting in June, for every SUNNAN solar light you purchase, IKEA will ship one off to Unicef.  Unicef will then redistribute them, the first shipments heading to refugee camps in Pakistan. What’s not to like about using an alternative energy source to better the lives of children displaced from their homes?

SUNNAN Solar Lamp

“Millions of children can’t draw, write or read after sunset, limiting their horizons and possibly their futures,” said Marianne Barner, head of IKEA Social Initiative. “We hope our lamps are a small but important contribution to improving the lives of children in developing countries.”

Built to withstand the wear and tear associated with life in refugee camps, combined with it’s solar recharged batteries, it sounds like the perfect fit for these kids.

At $19.99 I’d be happy to buy one for my kids! Unfortunately it is available in stores only. And my closest store is 150 miles away. No word on how long they’ll be running this deal.

Do you already own the SUNNAN Solar Lamp or are you planning to do your part by purchasing one? If so, hop over to our gallery and share your stories and pics of how you’re putting it to use.
