IKEA USA President Pernille Spiers-Lopez to Transfer
Mike Ward, currently President of IKEA Netherlands will replace the current IKEA USA President, Pernille Spiers-Lopez as of January 1, 2009. Ward joined IKEA Canada in 1986 and was promoted in 2005 to President of IKEA Netherlands. He’d previously served as Deputy Retail Manager since 2001.
Spiers-Lopez will become the head of Global Human Resources. Spiers-Lopez has led IKEA US since 2001 after joining the company in 1990. Her new position will have her overseeing 135,000 workers in 24 countries.

I think that my husband and I could be the poster children for IKEA. We have furnished our home, remodeled our kitchen, living room and bedrooms with IKEA cabinets and accessories, We just bought a braviken sink and gruntal faucets with a godmorgen cabinet. We questioned the IKEA associate regarding compatibility of the plumbing fittings with standard American fittings, and he assured us the split valve needed for the double sink was available at Home Depot. It is not. Nor is it available at plumbing supliers in our area or online.
I requested help on the phone but the young woman whom I spoke with told me to bring everything back to the Sacramento store. I then tried the internet “contact us” and the message was returned, “undeliverable”. I am now typing this request with one finger while on hold, AGAIN!
If the fittings are not accessible, then I suggest you cease selling the product. If they are accessible, please help me get them. Elena Tomita, 209-956-4064
I think this is a great thing for Ms. Spiers-Lopez. The new catalogue is so much better without her input. It’s younger and more fun. She was making Ikea into the granny store in the USA catalogues. I believe the Art Director went with her as well, the new catalogue is so much better.
PLUS, for the first time in YEARS I got a catalogue in the mail! Every year I requested one and never received it. I filled out the “get a catalogue” link on Ikea and never received it. We love to SHOP at Ikea and it was really frustrating not to be able to get a catalogue. We live about 1 hour away from the Emeryville.
The catalogue came and it was addressed to RESIDENT our address. Hah. Probably everyone in our town received one. I like the new President already, it’s more like CUSTOMERS FIRST than Ms. Spiers-Lopez. I have a feeling that even though she went to global HR it was more of a lateral move. More of a demotion and they didn’t want to be sued by her.
