It’s Raining Cats and Dogs at IKEA

Viewed 440 times

Did you know that IKEA sells stuff for your pets? It’s no Dr. Foster’s Pet Supplies and it’s not like any online or discount pet supplies company - you’ll not find food, litter, medical or veterinary supplies for your pets at IKEA, but you will find all sorts of creature comforts. The fun stuff!

Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month

October is the American Humane Society’s Adopt-a-Dog Month (June is the official Adopt-a-Cat Month).  It’s also National Animal Safety and Protection Month, so we’re going to do a little exploring of the Fur your Pets department and see what we can find…

New Pet Basics

So, you’ve adopted a new dog or cat! Congratulations! Pet adoption is both exciting and a bit scary if it’s your first time. Still, adding a new member of the family is always fun and I’ll bet you’re dying to find new stuff to shower your pooch or purrball with love. Believe it or not, you can fulfill a lot of your new pet’s needs at IKEA! Inexpensive pet care items, fashionably appointed - who could ask for anything more? To get started, try …

A six piece cat care set: Includes a cushion for kitty, a collar, two metal bowls, a toy and a carrying case all for $19.99.

A six piece doggy care set: Includes a blanket, two plastic bowls, a leash, small toy and carrying case for $19.99. ikea-bastis-6-piece-starter-set-for-new-dog-ownersWell, you’ll probably want a book for reference, too!  Here’s a few that come well recommended: The Dog Owner’s Manual: Operating Instructions, Troubleshooting Tips, and Advice on Lifetime Maintenance and one for cat owners, too: The Cat Owner’s Manual: Operating Instructions, Troubleshooting Tips, and Advice on Lifetime Maintenance.

Traveling with Pets

You might find that once you have a pet, traveling isn’t so easy as it used to be. Now you have to plan ahead - think about a car carrier, rest stops and litter boxes in the car (yuck!). IKEA’s put together this four piece travel set to help with your holidays and vacations with your dear animal friend. The BASTIS travel kit includes waterproof water and food bowls, a waterproof bed and a carrying bag for only $19.99

Pet Supplies

Fur Control

Cats and dogs have fur … which means that you and your furniture also now have extra fur with everything. Keep the fur under control with inexpensive lint rollers from IKEA. Refills are also available to help you keep a handle on the cleanup from your pets.

Feeding and Watering

Pet bowls - the IKEA BASTIS line has something in every budget.  Food and water bowls from $0.49 for the cheapest BÄSTIS bowl, $4.99 for 2 of the blue and green bowls all the way up to the BÄSTIS FLÄCK food bowl at $9.99. Pictured below, left to right. The basic BASTIS bowls fit in the BASTIS stand for food bowls (not pictured).

Resting

Yes, apparently pets like tents. Our daughter’s cat sleeps in his. Who knew?  Snuggle a nice pillow, basket or pet bed inside and you’ve got a nice little haven for your best furry friend at night. Choose from camo or royal - each $7.99. BASTIS cushions for dogs or cats are affordable, if possibly a little freaky for your pet (see the one with eyes…).

Royal Pets

The BÄSTIS  KRONA line features a red and black palette and a crown motif on a variety of cushions, pillows, rugs, beds, even a CHAISE fer cryin’ out loud!  Talk about treating your pets like royalty!

gigi-royal-costumeIf you really want to go all out, outfit your cat or dog in a regal costume like the one shown right on our daughter’s cat, Gigi. The MALE, dress-wearing, costume-sporting, totally plastic, pliable, ego-less cat, Gigi (points for anyone who gets the reference!) is wearing a Royal King Dog Costume - ironically, he thinks he’s a dog and will fetch, circles before lying down and he comes when called. Clearly not sure of his place in high society he’s still the King of our 7 year old daughter’s heart.

Those tents would be perfect for dolls too. Going on my Christmas shopping list!

They’re really cute. I wish they came in a different color pattern, but such is life.
