Quality Issue Affects Adel Medium Brown Doors Made in China

As noted in this thread in the IKEA Fans Kitchen forums:  Adel Medium Brown doors don’t match, there appears to be a quality issue with Adel Medium Brown doors manufactured in China, by supplier number 20995.  Adel Medium Brown doors made in Hungary don’t appear to be affected.  The following problems with Adel Medium Brown doors  (also known as AMB doors around these parts) made by a Chinese supplier have been identified:

  • the finish was very slick with a bright sheen
  • the color was pinkish (more like beech)
  • there was absolutely no grain evident in any of them
  • This issue was first noticed and reported at the IKEA store in Hicksville, NY.  Please check your orders before leaving the store, if at all possible and report any problems with the finish on AMB to the store manager immediately!

have run into the same problem with my schaumburg, il. store. and am sure this is happening all over the states. called ikea over 3 weeks ago , received a case number and no one has contacted me since from the national call center. someone did call me from my hometown store and i got a direct number to call from them. today i will go into the ikea battlefield and see what they do for me. ive been on a long vacation and now its time to get busy. as for the differences in the door and drawer fronts, they are totally unacceptable and i hope ikea fixes the problem, not just for me but for future consumers too. it really makes an exciting project turn out to be a bummer.

Good day, 12 of my 50 doors and drawers had the 20995 code. They were purchased in April 2 2009. They are horrible and I would not put them up.

Ikea Canada has told me there was a stop production order put on these products but many were shipped. They have jumped on my case and are trying to source the 16230 ones but there are no guarantees. Supposedly the new doors from China match.

I will update you as this unfolds. It is a known issue and Ikea should help you. They are for me so far. I will provide an update. As of now my stress level is down and I will proceed with my install with a carpenter next week. :)

Other then this I really like the boxes and hardware that they use.

      Regards,

      David (Canada)

Wondering what the outcome was on the door/drawers. We purchased ours in April but are only installing now. Boxes have not been opened but are afraid to open, all are have the China manufacturer and code.

      Thank you

I’d recommend checking in the forums – the folks there have their fingers on the pulse of what’s going on…I’m just the lowly reporter. :p Good luck!
