From the forums: Star Dishes, Circa 2005?
A few years ago, my wife and I were walking through Ikea and she spotted a set of white dishes with a large star printed in the center. They were relatively normal looking dishes with the exception of the star. She made mention how much she liked them and I marked down a mental note to pick some up for Christmas.
Christmas came around and I went to pick up a set only to find they’d been discontinued. We still walk around looking for those plates when we’re in the store (like ghosts haunting a department store). I’ve called the store and nobody can source them or even get a name. I checked Replacements.com for Ikea pattern names, ebay, craigslist, etc. Does anyone have the name of this set? I think my searches will be a lot more productive if I can search by name. Bonus points if you can tell me where to buy a set.
A quick search through my catalogs from 2001 – 2007 turned up nada, and likewise with a cursory search at eBay. I found dishes with starfishes, and dishes with sun spirals but no dice on the stars.
Can anyone help shed light on the name of these dishes? Let’s make one woman’s holiday shine!
UPDATE: IKEA Product IDENTIFIED!
Sorry for the delay, beatle!
I’ve been racking my brains since you posted. I remembered the dishes, because I nearly bought them myself, but I couldn’t for the life of me remember the name. And then, this afternoon when I revisited your post, there it was!
Here’s what I know: The dishes were called ENSTA, it was a 33-pc set, and their article # was 501.129.29. I’ve uploaded a pic to help aid in your search (it’s not great — sorry.)
The unfortunate news is that these dishes were manufactured as “Free Range” for IKEA… usually a limited contract with a supplier for a single or set of products that are ordered in quantity once and never are seen again. This may make your search more than challenging.
Good luck!!

I have these plates, however I put them in the microwave and noticed sparks, do you know if these plates or microwave safe, and if those stars are actually made out of metal? Thank you.
I have the ENSTA set as well… and mine also spark in the microwave. They claim to be microwave safe, but they are clearly not. You will also notice that the metal is removed after sparking.
On another note, I have recently broken a few of the dishes in my set and LOVE this set… Has anyone had any luck finding replacements or other sets?? I would like to purchase replacements/extra settings.
