Custom Closet Organizers for the Kitchen

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 by Tigratrus

The ultra-narrow Pull-Out Broom Closet Modification is a popular way to get a closet organizers and use up a few extra inches (just 4″-6″ needed!) next to the refrigerator, pantry, or even just up against the wall. When I realized just how little space organizing your broom closet can take, I’m thinking it might be worthwhile to plan my own custom closet.  I could fit my little electric broom in there!  I’ll squeeze it in somewhere – who needs pesky studs in the walls, anyway?!?

IKEAFANS’ member and mod jgsearls was the first to have her handyman whip one up her own custom closet based on some inspiration pictures found on GardenWeb’s That Home Site Kitchen forum, and she posted numerous pictures and details on the process in her thread: Pull-Out Broom Closet. See pics above for some instant inspiration!

Stacylu, a long time IKEAFANS Moderator, also did a broom closet, and documented the process in a How To: 4″ Broom Closet Modification.  They used fridge cover panels, 22″ drawer glides, some extra bits of wood and silver finished peg board. Check out the full gallery album and the thread for details on how they added 4″ of closet storage in the kitchen for organizing their closet. It turned out beautifully!
