Hi! I’ve uploaded my photo for the contest
Here’s the story: my mom bought this sofa for my dad as a gift. It was supposed to be his reading chair in their bedroom. Unfortunately, the chair didn’t fit through the door of the master bedroom! So they placed it in the living room instead, where my brother and I abused it a bit as kids… and now it’s looking a bit sad and in dire need of new upholstery. Now that we’ve both grown up and moved out of the house, my dad would love to reclaim his chair, but as you can see, it’s definitely very beaten up. My dad’s birthday is coming up and I’d love to recover it with your gift card!
    Thanks for looking!

We love our Manstad sofa from Ikea, but unfortunately the fabric is looking awful this days and there’s no way to fix that! We’d really like a sofa cover to cover it up.

I entered the upcycle my couch contest and here is my story.

Let me start by saying I will turn 60 this June 24th and this couch and I have a lot in common, We both are a little worn, and faded yet our springs remain strong, and we have plenty of style! This couch is probably from the 60’s,( I came a little before that) yet it’s sleek design remains priceless just as I feel about myself.
For that reason I would love to win this contest as a Birthday gift to me and a continued symbol that says, Age really doesn’t matter it’s what’s on the inside that counts!!!

I’d love to win the cover because the sofa is in great shape, but the upholstery is a bit unfashionable right now… easily solved by the great covers from Comfort Works!

I forgot to mention, my girlfriend and I are getting married in a few months and a new sofa cover would definitely be a great wedding gift!

My wife and I have entered our couch in the Comfort Works upcycled contest – view our entry here:

And here’s our story on it:

Yellow is not the colour for a couch when you have kids. Of course, when we inherited this couch (in really great condition), we were newlyweds and six years away from children. We washed the slipcover yearly and loved our comfy Ikea couch, but last summer its days began to see their end. A spot of pomegranate juice wouldn’t come out, our friends’ son sat on some greasy banana bread, and after some serious attention to the stains, one day I sat down and the fabric split open (on the couch, not my pants J). Then our 3-year-old daughter took a nap on the couch and proceeded to play with the hole in the fabric until she had torn it wide open.

SO! How delightful it would be to carry on the enjoyment of this well-loved sofa with a new cover! Please vote to keep our family’s much-used Ektorp alive with some fresh fabric.

  14. Robert says:

    Hi again!

If you take a look at our entry (, you’ll notice on the first comment that Comfort Works themselves are vouching for us. So thanks for your votes! :)

    my couch:

My wife and I scored a great deal on this Ikea couch earlier this year when we were furnishing our first apartment with a very limited budget. It had a couple minor tears and some torn seams, but a pretty easy fix… but we underestimated the chaises ravenous appetite and now spend the better part of our day to day trying not to get stuck in the holes.

the leather is starting to do some funny things too… and by “funny” i mean “not funny” and by “things” i really mean “turning any lighter colored fabrics poo colored brown”

  16. Adrien says:

I’m on a serious budget since I recently bit the bullet and headed back to school on a flight attendant’s salary (minimum wage with travel perks). I was thrilled to snag an Ektorp chaise sofa from the ‘as is’ department, but it was missing one thing, a glorious silver velvet slipcover! In fact, it had none at all…

Alas! After sorting through the textile bins of IKEAS round the globe, I’ve managed to piece together this atrocity which does no justice to this beautiful piece of furniture (shudder) or my resolve to finally escape my habit of dorm room style decor. I may be back in school, but I’d like to start living like the sophisticated adult I imagine myself to be, or at least make believe, with a beautiful showpiece I can build my whole apartment around. Just imagining the possibilities! Please help us realize our dream!

-Adrien & Little Stevie Wonder Cat (the blind miracle kitty who does NOT scratch furniture)

  17. Dana says:

I have 14 indoor cats I really need you to help UPCYCLE MY SOFA COMFORT WORKS! With that many cats my “spare” money goes to the vet, food and litter. You see, a decade ago, I made the mistake of feeding a stray female – you guessed it – she wasn’t spayed. I didn’t even realize she was pregnant (the first time). She brought her litter of 5 over to my garage when they were about six weeks old and completely feral. I didn’t realize that rescue organizations wouldn’t take them, so they became mine. She was far too wise for a trap, so I was “blessed” with another litter before we were able to trick her into a carrier. Now I just need for my sofas to outlast my herd!

  18. Meg says:

I purchased this couch when I was starting college, it was originally white. It’s been with me through nearly ten years of use now, has gone through two slip covers and patiently waited for me while I finished university on the other side of the country. It’s a little worn out now, all the zippers are broken, the fabric has shrunken so it’s ripped at the seams when I try to put it back on after washing, and it’s getting a little embarrassing to look it. I thought about buying a new couch, but just didn’t want to part with it! It’s such a wonderfully comfortable couch, perfect for movies and video games and cuddling big doggies, I just don’t have the heart to part with it and would like to give it another chance at life. I’m tight for cash right now, and probably wouldn’t be able to swing the ComfortWorks comforter I have chosen for it for about a year or so (estimation) due to job layoff, left to my own devices, so I figured I would appeal to the Interwebs to vote in support of the amazing versatility and durability that is the Ikea sofa.
